PERSONALITY
Outgoing | Extrovert | Self-centered | Manipulative | Judgmental | Impulsive | Insecure
Juliet is an outgoing, social person, who loves trying everything of the newest trends and posting about them on any form of social media. Her Instagram is littered with selfies and pictures of food and places she has gone to (however limited that is with the small county of Printy) and she has no qualms talking about them. She is rather talkative and loves holding conversations with others, drawing people in with a certain charm and wit – which makes her a pretty decent sales girl in that sense. Coupled with enough independence to hold her own and a diligence about her work, she seemed like a regular young adult.
The longer you’re with her however, the more of her ugly sides begin to show. She is incredibly blunt to a fault, and she finds very little wrong with being that honest, even if you were to let her know that it’s offensive. She often likes to make little jabs at people, stating that they are ‘jokes’, laughing off most reactions to it. At times, she can be nice – but those are so few and far in between that it is hard to acquaint her with that word. Though her mood is often labile, there are times where you find that she is extremely unpredictable – going from one extreme to the next without any sort of in-between. You may be making an innocent comment, and all of a sudden she is yelling at you for assuming things about her.
She hates being told what to do and being ordered around – and unless you are part of her ‘acceptable’ circle, you will most likely be faced with immense resistance until you either gave up or she leaves. Juliet also has a hard time taking responsibility; when things are clear-cut her fault, she tries her best to do something about it, but she is more likely to find something else to blame than to pinpoint the problem to herself. She is also incredibly prone to bouts of impulsiveness; she doesn’t really know how to plan or keep to it well enough, and it shows in the way she has all these impromptu shopping sessions or café visits.
Deep down, she is an insecure girl with an unstable sense of self, and she relies on outward appearances and relationships to keep herself feeling – and her identity – grounded. She lacks the understanding that people are their own individuals and must focus not just on herself, but on others as well, if one wanted to truly belong.
But whether she will recognize this – only time will tell.

PERSONAL HISTORY
Her mother said everything ended when Juliet was born.
Her parents had been high school lovers (each other’s first loves), and neither of them had any college education; they both started working after high school and married soon after. Juliet was born into a happy family; at the time, both her parents had welcomed her into the world and had showered her with as much love as they could. Madeline was a huge romantic, and had always wanted a big family – and a large family she got, even at the reservations of her partner, who had initially wanted only two children. Francis wasn’t sure if his mechanic job could take the pressure of having five children, especially with all children still in school, but work hard he did, in order to help support his wife’s dream.
The year after was when they felt into financial trouble. Francis’s mother fell gravely ill, needed admission to the ICU, and being their eldest, had to begin pouring in money to help pay for the hospital bills. This was a strain on both the family and Madeline was devastated to find her fairy tale life being turned upside down by something like this. It became worse when her workplace closed down from bankruptcy, and she had to find another place to work. Francis and Madeline got into fights often, which would frequently lead to Francis leaving the house and driving elsewhere, and Madeline crying into the night.
It was no surprise then, that Francis cheated on her, and they got a divorce.
Madeline was so broken by the ordeal that she was really only a shell of her former self. She had managed to get work before the divorce, but she wasn’t brilliant at it, only working enough to have a paycheck in the end. Although she did the usual things for the children, she wasn’t the loving, happy mother that the older children remembered her as. The longer it went on, the less she turned up to work, the less she cared for the children, and the more time she spent outside, goodness knows where, and sometimes turned back to the house drunk. In the end, Annabelle had to stepped up to become the main caregiver of the family. She dropped out of school to help care for her family and her mother. Later on, when Frederick was old enough, he dropped out of high school to begin working as a mechanic apprentice, to help support his sister.
Juliet grew up in those turbulent times. She remembered always being told what to do and what not to do, and always to follow rules – and never having a play partner to play with because her siblings were all just too busy. She remembered Annabelle crying a lot and Frederick attempting to console her, with Isabelle just keeping on screaming about why this had to happen to them – and wanting them to just stop. She remembered the odd times her mother would appear out of her room, never giving her a glance most of the time, ignoring her even as she cried for mom. And she would remember those rare times – those rare times where her mother came home with an angry face, and the panicked expression on Annabelle’s features when she shoved her into the closet with Isabelle and Frederick. And she could never get her screams out of her head, not even with Frederick’s hands over her ears.
And she always remembered the vicious words her mother spoke when Annabelle wasn’t there.
School was hard for Juliet. She found it difficult to make any friends, and she always felt like she didn’t belong. She was prone to angry tantrums and crying fits when things did not go her way – but these would give her more problems than what it was worth. In the end, her numerous cries went unheard, and she began to become resentful and revengeful; taking out her frustrations on those younger than her, knowing that they weren’t strong enough to fight against her. There was something about it – something about being in that position that made her feel so much more grounded than ever, and she reveled in it. And they would be too afraid to leave, staying with her until she was satisfied with them. But inflicting injuries was far too noticeable, so she learned to lace her words with honey, prettied herself up enough, appeared sweetly enough so that people wouldn’t leave her, and wouldn’t make her feel lonely again. Not like her family did.
But it was never enough.
When she was 15, her mother got into an accident on her way home and died from her injuries. With Isabelle having already left the county, and Frederick now working as the main mechanic, Annabelle gained custody of her sister until Juliet was old enough to be a legal adult. Their relationship was amicable at best, with Annabelle attempting to be a loving parental figure, but Juliet felt no love for her sister, only seeing her an overbearing old auntie who was trying too hard to make up for the mistakes of their mother. The changing circumstances and the scramble for college applications made Juliet feel like she was – once again – left behind, and now the people she had “bonds” with had changed so much over the course of the years that she no longer felt like she felt part of it all.
She hated her family and she hated her life.
She never felt like she belonged.
She went to college for a business degree, but just couldn’t take the pressure or the environment and dropped out soon after. She moved to Larkspur to find a job, but every time she did, she could never stay in one; always hoping from one place to another. Every time she left, she would always say it was because she “never felt at home”.
When the Gru arrived, she had reacted to it the best way she could in the eyes of social media – reaction memes, numerous selfies and the like; but she was equally just as manipulative to them as she was with humans. Their alien-ness was so funny to her that in some ways she reveled in their strangeness – for once, she didn’t feel like she didn’t belong.
And that was her life at the time – until her abilities became stronger than she had anticipated.
She didn’t understand what was happening to herself.
But she was becoming different.
And that difference scared her.
