LIKES
- Sweets. Anything sweet, she normally has something hidden in the bottom of her bag that's sweet. Even if it's just some overly sugary gum.
- She loves eating bone marrow, she's not entirely sure why and she only likes it certain ways, but if it's right she'll be so happy to eat it.
- Amber, being a big kid at heart loves making forts that she can hunker down and read in. She loves when people join her in them too, it's just a nice and comfy situation.
- 'The quiet life' she really, really just prefers when she's in a nice, quiet environment. Sometimes she feels better when she can just have some time by herself.
- Disney. She's deeply in love with Disney, it's just a comfort to watch and enjoy and she will always like singing along with the songs even if she doesn't have the best singing voice.
DISLIKES
- Being alone, she doesn't do too well when she doesn't have some kind of company around. She just gets easily nervous and likes to be able to have conversations with others.
- Any kind of violence, or when people resort to violence either. She might have some kind of 'training' in regards to it but she really hates it when she see's people getting hurt.
- The actual fact that she even knows how to fight. The idea of it just makes her uncomfortable and skeevy. It's not something she'll ever need or want to have to resort to using.
- Messiness. She can't function properly if there's mess everywhere, it just does her head in. She just wants things to be pretty and tidy so she can work efficiently.
- Being told that she's could do better, or that she needs to lose weight. She's very happy as she is thank you very much and she doesn't need anybodies opinions about anything.
PERSONALITY
| Soft | Cheerful | Friendly | Intelligent | Quiet | Clumsy | Push Over | Gullible |
Amber is the kind of person who has been forced into the 'intelligent' role since she was a young child and that has never really changed no matter how much she has tried to change herself. Even if she had abandoned her mother, she couldn't stop herself wanting to learn and better herself. Unfortunately it didn't really help her too well when it comes to talking to others. Mostly kept at home as a child she didn't get use to talking to others for extended periods of time. Well, unless it's with kids or her students.
Her not having a lot of interaction also put her at another disadvantage, she was...extremely naive. Amber tends to trust very easily, and most people wouldn't have any trouble trying to trick her into doing something so long as it seems like it's for the 'right reason'.
She has somewhat of a calm aura surrounding her, her mood is mostly always relaxed and calm. She tries hard to keep a open smile on her face and is the kind to be seen happily bopping around with a good amount of cheer in her bones.
Amber also makes a point to make sure she listens to others if they ever do come to her to talk. She prefers to listen to people rather than talk, and sometimes she can give some pretty good advice considering her limited life experiences. There's also a chance that she's piling a plate high with food, making you a hot drink and dragging out the blankets without you even having to ask. She's honestly a little easy to take advantage of.
She's currently trying hard to get out more, be more talkative and even be a little louder than she has been in the past. It's a bit of an undertaking but she really wants to improve herself.
There are some issues with her her attention span sometimes too - she has a bad habit of getting distracted when out and about and in the past has ended up getting herself injured. But her bag is also filled with band-aids, so it's mostly okay. Just in case.

PERSONAL HISTORY
Amber was born in London, England, and from the moment that she could talk she'd been put into 'training'. She had a lot of expectations laid on her that she just had to meet. So to start all of that off, she and her mother flew over to New York to a family 'home' to get her 'life' started.
Her father would not be following them. Even with a daughter he was a traveler at heart who would only ever find time to visit her on the odd occasion. Her mother and father didn't much get along in the first place. Their marriage had been arranged so there was little affection in the home. It was honestly a surprise that Amber had been born in the first place.
Once she was fully able to walk and talk she was put into lessons, languages, music and martial arts. It was only really martial arts that she didn't like out of the collection, but she was expected to excel at it even so. It was also just something that the family needed as a precaution. Amber had to be the best of the best or there would be consequences and those were not something she ever wanted to think about or deal with.
In the end Amber didn't have much of a childhood. There was no affection from her mother and she was mostly risen by maids and nanny's, which she wouldn't have minded all that much if her mother didn't frequently fire them and change them out for 'more qualified' people. Whenever her dad was finally able to visit her she would find herself clinging to him and soaking in all of the love she didn't normally get. He did, thankfully, love her as much as she loved him.
Then, somehow, six years after she was born, her younger sister came along. That was an even bigger surprise than Amber had been.
Even at the age of 6 Amber was aware that the way she was brought up wasn't regular. Her mother was as neglectful as they came, and horribly controlling and she didn't want her tiny little sister dealing with her mother as she had. So she made sure that their mothers eyes stayed on her, that she was perfect and successful. They were lucky that the maids and nannys looked the other way when it came to caring for each other.
But eventually everybody hits a breaking point. It just took Amber's 16 years to finally get there. The first visit of that year from her dad had been the catalyst for a lot of things that would happen from then. The stories of his adventures sparked something inside of her. The two sisters had been keeping what had been happening at home quiet, treating it like a secret. It was finally time to tell him everything. So they did and he was furious, it took very little convincing on Amber's part to get her dad to agree to take Sapphire away with him on his adventures. She'd been protecting her her entire life so far, so she couldn't just suddenly stop there.
That just left Amber at the mercy of her mother. But the woman didn't seem overly bothered by the events, she still had the eldest, trained like a good little socialite. It would all change one Amber declared she was leaving to start boarding school. It was a choice she and her dad had made and her mother had no sway in the matter. Once she left it took barely anytime before she was disowned. To her it was no bother.
Once in boarding school her life improved drastically. She made friends and could actually start doing things that she liked doing, which honestly was a little difficult, what did she like and what was she made to like, but binge-ing on Disney and eating whatever she wanted was a good start off to this new life she was going to lead from that point. Most of her childhood had been spent being successful and then caring for her sister and now, now she could start caring for herself.
It wasn't too long before one of her new found friendships blossomed into something even more. Her first and only love. A boy who her mother would have hated. Sweet, funny and kind. And a musician. Still being young the two slowly evolved into something more, happy to take their time.
Amber basically blasted through school, finding it much easier after all of her rigorous tutoring. Coming out of the other side with great grades and in a serious relationship. It was far more than she ever dreamed that she could have.
For a while after school finished everything was good - the boyfriend worked with his band and Amber started a job in retail, but it was all very different to the environment that they had been together in before. They didn't get to see each other nearly as much as they previously had been able to. Sometimes it would be weeks before they managed to really spend time together. It only got worse once Amber decided that she really did want to go to collage after putting it off for a few years in hopes they'd just save money for a while. Still the two found themselves settling into a nice, small place in Phlox, where Amber would be desperately trying to divide her time between everything and everybody. Unfortunately in the end their differences in schedules put too much of a strain on the relationship and before Amber had even gotten through her third year of collage the two had broken up.
He moved out of the county not long after, and although it wrecked Ambers heart she really thought that it would be the best for the both of them in the end. So Amber concentrated on her studies from that point on and with a determined mind and came out with the ability to teach students and the most knowledge of childcare she could possibly have.
At that time she wasn't hearing a lot from her family, they didn't always have the means to contact her after all. It was a bother and a worry. When her sister finally was able to get into contact with Amber it was with some 'bad' news. Their mother had passed away from an illness without telling anybody she was sick in the first place. Amber, although she wouldn't say she had loved the woman, still found herself crying over the death of her.
Once her dad took over the family business, Amber was reinstated, but she didn't care much, she still wanted to work hard and live her own life, on her own steam.
Getting a job wasn't too hard for Amber really, her previous teachers knew just how hard she did work and she was lucky enough to be offered a position of a retiring member of staff. So, happy with her quiet life in Phlox and loving her old teachers, of course she said yes. She was living a good life.
When the Gru first arrived, Amber was in shock, but so long as they didn't bother her, why would she be annoyed by their arrival? It wasn't like it really looked like they were doing anything bad...but then all the weird stuff started happening.

EXTRAS
- Amber can play the piano pretty well, but can only follow it by the book. She's no good at improvising.
- Fluent in Bangala and Spanish. She also knows some Hindi. She, her sister and dad talk mostly using a mixture of these three. She also has some vague recollection of learning some German and French but can't actually remember any of it.
- A total aquaphobe, she never learnt how to swim and is just terrified of water.
- She had some scars on her legs that she doesn't like people seeing very much.
- Slightly technophobic too, she just really can't handle all of the new types of technology. They confuse and worry her. Considering her family business had a lot to do with technology, Amber really didn't feel like being the one who would eventually take over from her mother.
- The moment clothes are lent to her, expect to never see them again. Especially if they're comfortable.
- Her favorite types of books are high fantasy and actual text books. She has a fairly wide range of liking books.
- The Flatts have a tradition to name each generation after a set theme, she and her sister were in the 'gem' generation. Their dad in the 'sky'.
- She's short, she knows it and she actually hates it! She'd much prefer that she was even just a couple of inches taller.
- Primarily listens to musicals, of all kinds and often just listens to soundtracks from movies too.
