July 15th 1998 [ Cancer | Earth | Cardinal | Jupiter ]

LIKES
- [ Salted caramel ] — something about the mix of flavours is compelling; what she’ll always recommend to customers.
- [ Mollusks ] — particularly sea slugs and those XL snails. They can’t trigger her pet allergies so they get an A+.
- [ Mobile games ] — somehow always up-to-date with the latest candy crush levels. It’s a sad addiction.
- [ Public speaking ] — stage fright isn’t really an issue, and it’s an excuse to show off.
- [ Taking chances ] — unafraid of potential risks, she finds gambling to be a lot of fun. Plus when things go south, it’s always fun to hatch a ridiculous escape plan.
- [ Thrift stores ] — so many gems! So much potential! All with a cheap price tag!
- [ Spontaneous karaoke ] — always 100% ready to poorly belt out a Queen song.
- [ S c i e n c e ] — as a kid she totally fell for the make-believe science that the media shows. The reality is still pretty rad in her opinion; even a simple volcano experiment is guaranteed to get her hyped.
- [ Taking favours ] — she may be a little quick to help people on request, but it’s fun and it’s helped with networking so far!
DISLIKES
- [ Early mornings ] — definitely not a morning person. Usually has to dedicate a 10 minutes ritual of looking at memes to motivate herself to roll out of bed.
- [ Tea ] — one of those coffee snobs whose blood is 95% caffeine. Espresso or Death.
- [ Littering ] — DO!! NOT!!! She’ll absolutely be gross and toss your litter back at you.
- [ Staying inside ] — very quick to get stir crazy inside any set of 4 walls, though smaller spaces make her even more uncomfortable.
- [ Jello ] — after an unfortunate series of Jello Incidences in her childhood, she has sworn off it for life. Possibly her most hated thing. Jelly-like textures especially set her off.
- [ High heels / unnecessary accessories ] — she likes to embrace unbroken ankles and a simplistic wardrobe.
- [ Nail polish ] — went through a nail-biting phase. That anti-biting polish conditioned her to dislike the feeling having anything on her nails.
- [ Glitter ] — Henry Ruschmann was definitely chaotic evil for what he unleashed on the world. That said, a glitter bomb is usually her preferred method of petty revenge.
- [ Couture fashion ] — doesn’t get the appeal of stylish clothes at all really. Most of it is overly expensive for looking like the clothing equivalent of a sneeze.
- [ The Horror/Tragedy genre ] — gets attached to characters easily and will blubber like a baby at any sign of angst

Coming across as virtuous but generally amicable, first impressions of Violet may vary, yet they usually stay true to one point: she is a fiery ball of passion. As someone who tries to find connections with people from all walks of life, her daily manner is exuberant and keen on finding common ground -- quick to overwhelm people with her endless rambles soon after meeting.
Beneath her near happy-go-lucky heart-on-her-sleeve demeanour is a petulant adult with a penchant for less civilized thoughts. Due to the weight she puts on her beliefs, Violet is quick to grow spiteful towards those who offend her personally. In the case that she feels like her path has been crossed, she can be outright resentful and stubborn in her ability to keep a grudge. That said, her favour can be equally as easy to buy, simple shows of friendliness going a long way to win her approval.
More than just having strong (and easily swayed) opinions, her emotional side lends itself to other circumstances too. Having a love for competition and proving that she can do all the things, Violet can get riled up to a ridiculous extent over silly minutia. Oppositely, in the face of real stress she handles herself surprisingly well, largely unintimidated from making tough decisions or sacrifices. Though to this extent, her willingness to jump into troubling situations comes from the fact that her sense of danger is dulled by her disproportionate sense of capability; acting too reckless and trusting at times to be considered wise.
Finally, being a hard-working ‘doer’ by nature, she is motivated to go above and beyond whenever possible. This is best displayed within professional settings, where she aims highly and completes tasks with an eager work ethic. Nothing is stronger than her ambition to do well, consequently her argumentative side shows itself much more frequently within class debates as well as her frustration with less-invested peers. In her opinion, there’s no point in slowing down when there’s still work left to do, which guarantees a tireless mind and just as inflated expectations for those around to keep up.
All in all, Violet is a person of strong convictions with a desire to seek out the warmth from her surroundings. Being of a less-advantaged upbringing, she tends to follow wherever the next path takes her, fulling intending to make the best with what she has and raising the stakes along the way.

PERSONAL HISTORY
[ I. Prelude; Neon city ]
For Marie Ridley, exhilaration was often a cover for the lack of grandness in her life. From working as a bartender to her reckless nightlife and the lime green motorbike she proudly rode around town, she was the picture of a person who filled the holes in their self-worth with possessions and excitingly dangerous things.
That was why, when she found out that she was pregnant at 25 years old, she was conflicted with the news. With the kind of life she lead, subsequential worries soon came about whether she could raise the child to be well and happy, and it came as no help when her relatives came to the similar conclusion that she wasn’t exactly parenting material. “Security is the most valuable and fulfilling aspect of life.” They would often preach, only reminding her that the father, for all he was worth, had hightailed it out of there at the first sign of trouble.
Despite her inner conflicts, Marie made the choice to keep the child and raise them alone. Along her journey, friends and family alike would question the decision, as parenthood never seemed to fit within her walk of life. To which she could never explain — Marie was a woman of adventure, and it felt like the next phase of something that she should see through.
After many trips to pick up books on parenting, visits to the doctor and one peculiar encounter with a lazy-eyed fortune teller, Violet was born on July 15th 1998 without complication.
[ II. Childhood; Weathered beginnings ]
Relocating herself and her newly born daughter to a small house in Phlox, Marie took the steps to change herself for the better: fixing her nocturnal sleeping habits, making nutritional meals, and taking up a new-- and much more mundane-- job in the town. Nevertheless, some things never change, and Marie’s parenting style was much more permissive than most. Evidently, as a young child Violet was very independent for her age — already with the inclination to go wandering off without supervision (much to their neighbours frequent befuddlement when they’d find that she had crawled through a gap in their fence to say hello).
Being of limited funds, life wasn’t exactly the picturesque suburban dream one would expect to find in Phlox. The household lived by precious means, frugal in their practice of keeping leftovers and repurposing old and worn things. That aside, Violet and her mother still managed to have a close bond. It was very common for the family of two to spend a lot of time together whenever possible, most notably on the road when taking trips around the North/North-East to see friends and relatives.
Besides from a few rocky moments of uncertainty and worry, early childhood for Violet went as well as it could have. When it wasn’t spent in front of their quaint house making chalk drawings on the pavement while watching her mother tend to her motorcycle, it was spent listening to wind chimes on her grandparents’ house deck, being fed a gross abundance of food.
[ III. Adolescence; Tricky turns ]
Whilst attending public school locally in the Wolfe School District, her childhood curiosity reached its peak. Though undoubtedly forthcoming in her explorations, having very little filter meant that she was equally loud in proclaiming her fondness of people as she was in in her distaste towards those she got along with less, resulting in many butted heads and instigated fights.
Calls down to the office became commonplace, not that they had much of an effect on her antagonistic ways. It wasn’t until she was landed with a suspension and many lectures at home that she finally began to take the sentiments to heart.
Somehow she made her way into high school in one piece. Her history of schoolyard violence was never quite forgotten, though at that point she was well-adjusted enough not to immediately follow her old ‘punch first, think of consequences later’ routine when faced with conflict. Nevertheless, the essence of that gangly, outspoken kid was still there -- if only taking a more proactive role with age by expending her energy through extracurriculars.
[ IV. Fresh start; Rising tide ]
When it came time to decide how she wanted to spend her future, she ended up leaning towards a pathway she’d always had a respect for: conservation. It was an interest that sparked during their family’s annual camping trips in Printy State Park; getting to surround herself by nature always brought a sense of ease, and the research aspects of the profession appealed greatly to her love of science.
As tempting as it was to go for the grander options that had opened up to her, being a homebody under the layers of curiosity and ambition, she ended up opting to stay close to her area of interest and the community she grew up with. Soon enough after confirming her place at KBU, she was ready to begin the next part of her life. Moving across towns, she took up residence in a fairly small (cozy, she’d argue) apartment in Acacia, splitting rent with a roommate. In a bid to help pay back the money she owed, she ended up taking on many odd jobs that she stumbled upon around town; pet/house sitting, tutoring, and eventually a more permanent employment in a nearby ice cream parlor.
[ V. Present; Friendly neighbourhood overlords ]
Violet’s opinion of the invasion wasn’t as antagonistic as it probably should have been when the news broke. Beyond giving the scientific community a stir, the gru hadn’t made too big of an impact on her daily life -- they blended right into the Acacia lifestyle in fact! As long as they didn’t overstep their bounds too much (and also keep their disconcerting jelliness away…), she supposed they were alright.
EXTRAS
- [ Pinterest board ]
- [ Spotify playlist ]
- A whole 5’2” worth of snapple facts and fighting spirit.
- Uses xD unabashedly. Fight her about it. It's not that bad of an emoji.
- Hopes to one day work alongside the associations taking care of the State Park as a Park Ranger, and to conduct her own research.
- Very much likes plants. She just gets overzealous about caring for them, either over-watering or putting them into the wrong sunlight conditions.
- Hair is naturally a dirty blonde/brown shade. It also grows quickly, so she’s given up any pretence of having it dyed nicely at this point.
- Before moving, she once got dragged into working as a magician in one of her neighbour’s startup party entertainment business on account of owing said neighbour a favour (thankfully she was still paid her for her time because Mrs Nguyen is a merciful angel as well as an impressive entrepreneur).
