\PERSONALITY
CHARISMATIC | MODEST | RETICENT | RESILIENT | IMPARTIAL | DISORDERLY| WORKAHOLIC | SELF-DESTRUCTIVE
At first glance, Aksel is as a charming individual with his gentle smile and suave manners. He speaks in a slow, hushed tone and walks with conservative steps, reserved in his manner of speech but encouraging with his gestures and tendency to listen rather than speak. Though he knows better than to boast of his intelligence gained from both academic and casual experiences, his words of wisdom often leave lasting impact upon others and prompt motivation. Nonetheless, he is a humble individual; he rarely makes himself the center of conversation, subdues his own accomplishments, and reacts rather uncomfortably towards compliments no matter how deserved—just as his father would have acted. This evidently effects his proneness to being reticent, shying away from conveying his thoughts and emotions with ease; though, much of the reason for his withdrawn nature is derived from his past self, unwilling to have his mother worry about him on top of her illness. He has faced a number of hardships in the past, and such experiences have molded his flexible character. Aksel has taught himself to face challenges directly, turning his losses into opportunities to better himself and the circumstances that surround him. Because of this, he is unbiased towards all situations and people that he encounters, seeing them as chances to learn something new and test his own boundaries.
In his personal life, Aksel lives in a disarray, often creating a messy environment for himself in opposition to his outer appearance. Mugs and dishes of leftover food plague his living quarters and paperwork can be found messily spread across the tables. His healthy and clean habits from his youth have long deteriorated after his mother’s death, since he now lives alone without anyone to fret over his behavior. Furthermore, because of his actions of having put his mother’s needs before his own in the past, commitment to his career, and endeavors to make up for his injury, Aksel takes little care of his own health and safety—now dedicating twice the effort to his job instead of his deceased mother and himself. Sometimes, he stops to wonder what his father would have thought of him—though, he brushes off the thought briefly.

\PERSONAL_HISTORY
Aksel grew up accustomed to loneliness. His father was a busy and well-respected law enforcer; he was often away from home, sometimes absent for days on end when solving critical cases. Still, he was a good man and Aksel admired his father, struggling to understand his position and its importance. On the other hand, Aksel's mother suffered from a terminal illness. It was less apparent at first; she was still able to move freely, complete daily tasks, and interact with her child, homeschooling him out of her desire to take closer care of him and minimize the impact of his father’s common absence.Even with Mother’s efforts, however, it was impossible for her to keep the young child entertained throughout the days. Feeling somewhat guilty and overwhelmed by her care, Aksel resorted to reading books from the grand family library to pass the time. Through novels, he traveled across cities, regions, and realms, able to create fantastic journeys for himself and escape the mundane reality. One of his favorites were those regarding crime and detective stories; he loved the mystery behind them, and admired how the protagonists solved each and every case so thoroughly. They reminded him of his father.***
By the time Aksel became old enough to enroll in high school, Mother’s condition gradually worsened, prompting her to be bedridden for most of the day. Though unfortunate, her illness provided him a chance to be admitted into a public school. After several years of adjusting to a new social environment and striving to excel in his classes, he graduated as an honor student. Though Aksel was hesitant to attend a university due to his mother’s health, it was Mother who encouraged him to pursue his dreams despite family matters and make her proud. Thus, he moved to the states for a prestigious academic experience, majoring in law enforcement in honor of his father and minoring in literature as well as delving into linguistics at personal leisure.
One day during his sophomore year in university, the counselor called for Aksel’s presence at the office. It was there that Aksel learned of his father’s passing away, the man meeting an untimely death due to violent resistance during criminal pursuit. In the back of his mind, Aksel expected something like this to occur; Father was a somber but passionate man when it came to his occupation—forcing his aged self to work just as hard as he did in his youth and sacrificing himself and his family hours for the greater good of justice—but another part of Aksel was shocked. His father always appeared unbreakable—like a firm boulder able to withstand any harsh weather—but of course, such a notion was too good to be true, and he realized that he knew even less about Father than he originally thought. Staring down blankly at the well-polished floor of the office, Aksel thought of Mother.
Surprisingly, Mother stood her ground strong and unbending—even when she was required to be in a wheelchair—stating that Father would have wanted her spirited and solemn, and that she had to send him off with a positive message. After all, tears and sadness were never to her tastes.”He died doing what he did best; he wasn’t a family man, but surely one of justice.”
Mother asked the same of her son, prompting him to continue his academic career and leave the university a triumphant youth despite the loss. Determined, Aksel catered to her wish and received his degree, graduating successfully in three years after toiling to become one of the university’s best students. After his graduation, he retrieved his mother from Denmark for the pair to reunite as a family once again. In hopes of bettering her condition and allowing her to enjoy life, Aksel sought for an area in which he could work as a part of the police department in the city, and Mother could spend her leisure in a quiet, nature-friendly town. For this, Phlox Town at Printy County seemed perfect; the serenity and considerably safe environment seemed adequate in allowing him to carry out his duties as well as take enough time to tend to his mother’s care. Seven years later, Mother passed away peacefully in her sleep. She lived four years past the doctors’ predictions.
Maintaining his schedule even after his mother’s passing, Aksel continued his job as a law enforcer in Printy County. Some time during his field work, however, he got into a terrible accident, leaving him gravely wounded and unable to carry out the more heavy tasks asked of a police member. He had suffered a peripheral nerve injury as a result of receiving a knife slash on his forearm that cut a little too deep. Thankfully, the nerves weren’t fully damaged, but would take years to heal. Refusing to retire despite his injury, Aksel took up detective duties part-time and still continues to this day. Unbeknownst to him, he had grown up to become just like his father.***
He never outwardly stated his opinions about matters such as aliens before, as he keep such thoughts to himself, but did sometimes wonder of their existence—due to his adoration of books and the idea that because this universe is overwhelmingly vast, the belief that only Earth contains living organisms was quite doubtful. But now, aliens had proven themselves to exist beyond Aksel’s thoughts, and the detective could not afford to mistrust his own eyes. He must admit, he is quite interested in the aliens—personally seeing their fantastic quality before the dangerous—but is rather neutral about their presence among humans as long as they do nothing to disturb the peace. It was bound to happen and already did, so he might as well accept it.
\EXTRAS
- Standing at 6’ 1”, Aksel is still a force to be reckoned with.
- As a native of Denmark, the detective can speak Danish fluently, as well as several other languages.
- Most, if not all, of the clothing he owns is formal wear.
- Even after the banning of weapons by the Gru, Aksel’s habit of wearing holsters persisted. He jests that his shoulders feel somewhat cold without them when asked.
- Aksel barely makes use of his license and walks often. He also usually carries little to no money whenever he leaves his residence—only some pocket change at best.
- He has never smoked for the sake of his mother, but unfortunately delved into alcohol somewhere along the way. Though he abstains most of the time, seldom does he drink himself to sleep.
- One of Aksel’s ears is pierced, solely because of a dare from his university days which he was forced to participate in.
- Aksel prefers the timeless quality of dated ideals for his personal life. Though he admits technology is helpful, he still resorts to reading newspapers for reports and listening to vinyl records for music, careless of the “old-fashioned” label that would surely plague him. After all, history repeats itself, and past trends are certain to return.
- He used to collect newspaper scraps containing his father’s accomplishments. They are now cleanly stacked inside a box put aside in the corner of the house, their edges yellowing in comfortable silence as the days go by.
- Due to his peripheral nerve damage and the surgical procedure he had to endure, Aksel carries a large scar on his right forearm. Fortunately, he is left handed and can still proceed with daily tasks, but often has trouble when using his right hand and tries to avoid it as much as possible. Aksel is rather self-conscious about the scar and, though he does not hide it, would rather not talk about it, as with many of his other personal matters.
- His mother’s grave is placed next to his father’s back in Denmark; he visits them biannually.
