“Shh… A busy mouth makes an empty mind”
NAME
Ursula Oberhauser
AGE
27
GENDER
Female
BIRTH DATE
February 4th (Aquarius)
OCCUPATION
Part time massage therapist.
Ursula practices many different techniques that she considers more ‘spiritually’ therapeutic- though her own concept of spirituality is a crude amalgamation of various religions and mostly her own personal ideas. She doesn’t work at a spa, she just travels to her clients or asks them to come to her place.
On the side she dabbles in selling crystal jewelry online, reading palms and tarot cards, and leading people one on one in guided meditation.
LIKES
Alternative healing books || Ursula loves to expand her concept of health and healing. However she still respects modern medicine unlike a lot of her peers in the holistics community.
Books on tape || She’ll still read along in order to help with her dyslexia, but books on tape are truly a gift from the gods.
The color black || To Ursula black is a very ‘all encompassing’ and yet neutral and balanced color. It’s harmonious and constant, so she likes to wear it to maintain her personal ‘center’.
Autumn || “The earth shows us humans her artistic side in Autumn; and the cool, crisp air is perfectly moderate in feeling.”
Succulents || They are adorable, what can she say?
People who are interested in her || Somewhat self important, Ursula really appreciates when people let her gab on and on about herself and her ideals. Typically she’s the one listening to someone else, but it really flatters her when she says something nonconventional and someone asks her more about it.
DISLIKES
Close minded individuals || There’s really no conversation with those that can’t be open to different ideals. Ursula will sit there and listen to what anyone has to say, but what's the point of talking back when they’re so clearly invested in only how they think.
Confrontation || A back down artist. She won't disparage her true ideals, but she will stop mentioning them and change the subject before confrontation gets too heated.
High expectation || “Having low expectations means you are never let down, why can’t people see the beauty in that? Expecting anything of anyone is really a disservice to yourself and most importantly- to your soul.”
Working too much || Ursula believes that happiness comes from moving at your own pace, and Ursula’s pace is 15 hr work weeks with plenty of time for rest and meditation in between. Her own pace is pretty lazy in the eyes of others, but being a masseuse is very taxing and the work can cause significant damage if the masseuse isn’t properly rested between sessions.
Hurting Others || Ursula has been somewhat oblivious to the hurt she’s caused others. However she is in the process of becoming more mindful(see personality and Bio)
The Gru || Ursula truly believes the Gru to have an evil aura about them. They are not to be trusted and need to leave.
Winter || Winter is cold, snow is blindingly white and everything looks like death. “Obviously winter is earth's time to rest, but maybe she wouldn’t need to rest so much if we took better care of her”
PERSONALITY
[Flighty / Free Spirited] [Non Confrontational / Overly Compromising] [Tranquil / Aloof],
[Insightful listener, Spiritual, Sometimes Whimsical / Nonsensical, Impulsive, Not Very Smart ]
Ursula is at turning point in her life. When she returned home to her family she was faced with the duality between how she views herself versus how others view her. Where she’d call herself free-spirited, other would call her flighty and unreliable. While she believes she admits a tranquil aura, others might say she acts aloof. And where she deems herself diplomatic and non confrontational, others might call her weak willed and overly compromising. There is a whimsical aspect to the way Ursula acts. Whimsical in the sense that her reasoning might as well be fictionalized by others since she doesn’t really disclose her thought processes to anyone. In reality, Ursula doesn’t actively stop to think of her reasoning for what she does, she just does what feels most natural. And that's the problem.
One could argue that there is nothing truly wrong with how Ursula is as a person, but she has come to the conclusion that some aspects of her personality can cause real hurt, even when she’s not intending it, and so she needs to change. On her quest for self improvement Ursula has found herself becoming a more quiet, reflective and astute woman. As a good listener she has always been able to give insightful advice to others, but now she striving to become truly self reflective and more critical of her actions.
Much of her interaction with other people is through her work, so a lot of her spiritually used to come through in their perception of her. Ursula has spent many years experiencing different religions and reflecting on what they mean to her and in the grand scheme of things. Nothing she dabbled in ever tailored quite right to her own ideals, so she came up with her own interpretation that she can be at peace with. To Ursula, she has reached the peak of true spirituality through finding her own way, something she is proud of and loves to mix into her work. However most traditionally religious people are likely to find the concepts she spouts to be nonsensical, shallow and possibly insulting. Thankfully her own upbringing has taught her what it feels like to have a religion pushed on you so in order to be respectful (and with some encouraging from her sister) she has really toned down the amount of her personal ideals she mixes into her personal and working life. If someone were to really get close to her, they would have to come to their own conclusion about her ideals, but its relatively easy for the average acquaintance to write her off as just cooky.

PERSONAL HISTORY
As a Baby
Ursula is not originally from her current residency in Phlox, but close enough. She was born to a small town just south of Printy County. Of her and her two siblings, her parents always reminded her that she was their miracle child. They informed her countless time how blessed she was to be here. It didn’t take long for Ursula to get sick of getting called this, but her parents weren’t wrong; Ursula’s mother Hanna went into labor 5 weeks early after suffering medical complication due to a very bad case of the flu. It was 21 days before Ursula could be brought home, and even after she was released she was under strict supervision for the first year of her life. Ursula’s lungs were very undeveloped when she was born, and while the hospital took very good care of her she would continue to experience lung complications for the rest of her life.
But thankfully, she made it. She grew. She was a miracle. If you asked Ursula now, she’d recall her childhood being, ‘in with a bang, out with a whimper’- Since even though her birth was quite eventful, the rest of her childhood didn’t make much of an impact.
As a Child
The Oberhausers were suburban to a T. Middle american five person family. The kids were all raised strictly Christian. Hana stayed at home most days to raise the children and worked as a sunday school teacher every weekend. For a large chunk of their childhood the Oberhauser kids were very isolated from the rest of society. They were homeschooled, the closest friends they had were each other. Sometimes they would get together with other homeschooled children within their small community; but it was a rare occurrence and they hardly ever got along with each other. Ursula wouldn’t call her upbringing weird, per say, but there was no denying that it was simply just boring.
During this boring period of her life, Ursula’s imagination really flurioused. Unlike her siblings, she couldn’t spend hours outside playing; her lungs were weak, she got winded easily, and she was too young and not informed on how she could improve her situation. So she sat inside most days. Her parents tried to force her to read but Ursula struggled focusing due to the complications her dyslexia gave her. Left with little to do Ursula would just let her imagination run wild. She’d draw, write illedgeable stories, put on plays for her parents and even more. She was growing into a very creative person.
As a Teen
The Overhauser’s quiet and simple lives all changed around the time Ursula entered her teens. The Oberhausers were met with fiscal tragedy when the construction company Franz worked for went under. Jobs in the housing market were becoming more and more rare at this time and, as we know now, things were only going to get worse for his field in the coming years. So Franz was forced into an entry position in a new field, starting at a much smaller salary. He was lucky enough to find a job, but this fiscal upset was enough to force Hanna into the workforce and the children into public school.
Starting high school was hard on the two eldest Oberhauser children, but unlike Felix, Ursula had the advantage of starting as a freshman. Much of Ursula’s personality changed in high school. In order to make friends in a community of kids who had to been together their entire lives she had to become more extroverted. She had to get comfortable with the concept of not always fitting in and the feeling of being the outsider. And she had to start focusing on her health constantly if she wanted to be able keep up with everyone in her age group.
Physically, mentally and socially she had to try harder than she ever had in her life, just to be on the same level as her peers. She had to attend special classes to help her with her dyslexia (which did help her improve somewhat). But it was still hard. The revelation that she had been so coddled in her childhood made her somewhat resentful of her upbringing. Soon enough an age of rebellion consumed Ursula. She befriended kids who acted the most opposite of how she was raised. Not bad kids per say; but kids who challenged their parents, kids that challenged their teachers, kids that challenged the whole system! She adopted their fiery behavior, and for a long time it nearly tore her apart from her family.
As a Young Adult
Eventually, as it does with most children, the rebellious phase began to dull. She filtered through many friends as she entered young adulthood and soon enough she was faced with the question of ‘what now’. Ursula wasn’t comfortable at home, her beliefs had changed so much from those of her parent’s and there was still damage from her rebellious years that she wasn’t mature enough to fix yet. So she moved out. Where to? Anywhere really. Someone’s couch here, a strangers spare room there. She picked up numerous trade skills and worked odd jobs to afford her life, but never stayed anywhere too long. Her parents kept enough money in her bank account for her to afford her inhalers, but quite often she would try to go without, which upset them further.
The vagabond lifestyle reformed Ursula in an oddly positive way. Positive for her at least. She became more insightful, appreciative and came back to religion with her own interpretation of spirituality. Throughout her twenties she did quite a lot of world traveling. She had grown close to a small group of fellow americans who she’d go backpacking with. They were like her, traveling with little money, doing what they had to do to get by, all quite literally on a journey of ‘self discovery’. It was a beautiful time, and then one day Ursula realized she was done. She was done traveling for now, she was blessed to have had the chance to make the journey and with little complication ever occurring. But she felt a ‘divine’ calling to return home and reunite with her family.
Past Year
Not everyone was so keen with the person who Ursula had become, her parents especially. However Nena was surprisingly more than happy to have her big sister back home. When Nena concluded that Ursula hadn’t put much thought into where she’d be staying when she returned, she immediately insisted she move in with her. Nena was a full time RN with a cute little bungalow in Phlox; and in exchange for the entire loft area all Nena asked was for Ursula to clean once a week and give her free massage services whenever she asked. It was a lot to give Ursula for simple services, too much even. It finally dawned on Ursula that her flighty behavior had really hurt her sister, and that Nena was clearly trying to keep her here by any means.
As much as she felt she had improved as a person, physically and spiritually, there was still so much she needed to do to mature. Her sister offered her a chance to ground herself and so she accepted, she owed it to Nena at the very least to stick around for a while…
And then the Gru came.
Nena was spending time at her fiance's apartment across state when the ship landed. Ursula was home alone when her phone started blowing up. Aliens. Aliens had landed right in their backyard. Nena never returned after that day, deeming it safer to stay with her fiance. Still feeling indebted to her sister, Ursula said she was happy to stay and watch the house until this was all cleared up. But it didn’t clear up, and she wasn’t happy. Ursula is convinced that she senses nothing but bad energy around the Gru and tries to avoid them as much as possible. She keeps wondering, what will it take to make them leave?
EXTRAS
- She has a scar above her left eye. She smacked her head on a door when she was a toddler, nothing serious but hair no longer grows in that part of her eyebrow.
- Tries to sound deep when she’s feeling more whimsical- usually saying ‘introspective’ quotes that she’d make up herself. Works for some people, sounds incredible shallow to others.
- Ursula has a delayed reaction problem. She’s trying to improve her mindfulness of other, but considering others feelings wasn’t always her modus operandi so she’s forced herself to slow down and think. Can make for awkward conversation.
- Ursula has a hard time putting on weight and hovers around 100 lbs at any given time. Mostly to do with genetics- with a little to do with her eating habits.
- Ursula is dyslexic and has asthma.
- She spends a lot of her free time and extra money on a succulent garden she’s been cultivating in her sisters backyard. It’s fair more grandiose then you might expect and features aspect of fairy garden decorations as well.
- A healthy mind, body and soul is very important to Ursula. So she eats right, exercises regularly, doesn’t smoke, only drinks wine on rare occasions. This practice has helped make her lung complications very manageable. She takes very good care of herself, enough to impress the doctors when she does go in.
- Ursula claims to see auras and sense energy. She aggressively tells people that the energy around the Gru is evil and not to trust them.
