“Dunno dude...”
NAME
Ryan "Ry" O'Connery
AGE
25
GENDER
Male
BIRTH DATE
October 10th
OCCUPATION
Starving"Aspiring" Musician and songwriter
LIKES
- Music: Ry would go as far as to say he cannot live without music. However, his taste is very particular. Stars need to align and the wind has to blow from the right direction for Ry to like a song. It needs to have the perfect combination of flawless instrumentals and flawless songwriting. Quite frankly, he would be better suited as a judge on X Factor than an aspiring musician.
- Starset: One of the only bands he actually likes. Whenever he’s not writing songs himself, he can be heard blasting off their music from his small apartment in Larkspur. If anyone points out that his music sounds similar to theirs, he’ll deny it until the end of the Earth.
- Science: Isn’t it a wonderful thing when creativity and Innovation come together? One wouldn’t take Ry for a smart guy (and really, he isn’t that smart), but the few things he learned before dropping out of his Astronomy degree have been following him as inspiration to his songs.
- Ripped clothes: How convenient is it that he can still wear a pair of jeans after he accidentally ripped them (if they were already ripped in the first place)?
- Instant food: Anything that takes more than 5 minutes to cook is way too much effort. Besides, all food tastes the same for all Ry could care. Takeout? Maybe, if the delivery guy isn’t too late.
- Weed: Who would have thought the random thing he was asked to try in a dark alley would wind up being useful? Ry might be relying on weed a little too much at the moment, but if his newfound power wasn’t incapacitating his way of life. He probably wouldn’t.
- Friends: At the very core, Ry is a social guy. He likes talking to people, and it’s not always to ask for something. He has few he can call friends and when he bothers to be a little less self-concerned, he can be trusted with a secret or two.
DISLIKES
- Having his taste in music questioned: Ry can be touchy about a few things, but music is probably the worst. It would be a good idea not to criticize his taste unless you want to be in his bad books.
- Being nagged: Just don’t do it. He knows what he’s doing. Okay, he doesn’t, but why would you care?
- People who stick to the status quo: Being what the society expects you to, that’s bullshit. Be your own self. Do whatever you want… dude.
- Having to cut down on expenses due to lack of money: How typical for someone who was raised in the upper middle-class. He wants no help from his family anymore, but that’s too much of a drag…
- Cancelled gigs: They don’t know the good shit. They’ll regret it when he becomes famous… or that’s what he likes to think, at least.
PERSONALITY
- + Sociable(ish), Talented, Creative, Curious, Confident, Dedicated
- - Childish, Obstinate, Irresponsible, Uncompromising, Dependent
People who don’t know him would describe Ry as “cool”. Those who know him a little would say he is “chill”. In reality, Ry is just as flawed as any human being, if not more.Curiosity can get out of hand when it pushes him towards new people and new experiences, which Ry considers a source of inspiration for his creative endeavours. It can often be a letdown, however, when he runs into people who don’t pique his interest. Ry rarely bothers to maintain a conversation if he cannot get anything remotely stimulating from it.
Individuals who try to push their beliefs onto him and will instantly put him off even if it’s only hinted that he is not thinking nor doing something right. It may not always show on his face, but inside, Ry will already be planning how to end the conversation faster and stop wasting his time. He can be too confident in his ideals to a point where he will ignore any advice given to him unless he has a very good reason not to.
His personal style and his ideals when it comes to music are very particular and Ry clings to them with his teeth. A happy, perfect day for him would mainly consist in writing or playing music. Forgetting about essential things like eating, sleeping or showering is a recurring problem when Ry gets too engrossed in what he’s doing.
Despite being a friendly person in general, Ry is emotionally distant to a fault. The realm of his deeper personal problems is a difficult place to reach and even close friends will often be denied access. A good way to get to know him is probably through his song lyrics which aren’t as frivolous as his usual behaviour tends to be.
Ry likes to think he is independent, but people would say otherwise. Nothing he’s achieved so far was by his own merit. He needed his parent’s help to rent an apartment, refused to get a more stable job and despite claiming otherwise, he is still irresponsible with his finances (and life) in general. Not having lived on his own for a long time and being used to his parents always bailing him out, Ry ends up running out of money by the first half of the month and relies on his friends for help to make it to the next paycheck. Guilt comes back crawling during his rare emotional periods, but not strongly nor often enough to make Ry actually change his ways.
One of his bad (but necessary) habits is relying on substance consumption to dull his unusual power which can easily get in the way of his work. He is a heavy Marijuana smoker and it is not often that one can catch him in a sober state. Whenever he cannot get drugs, he becomes restless and irritable. Even when under the influence, bad side effects can get the better of him as his moods can spiral out of control when something doesn’t go his way.
TL;DR Relatively friendly druggie unless you criticize his music.

PERSONAL HISTORY
Ryan’s life was off to a great start as he was born healthy baby to a young couple who loved each other deeply. But Life doesn’t always play by the rules and the young infant was left an orphan for an unfortunate car crash took the lives of both his parents way too soon. Fortune was still on Ryan’s side as his uncle and aunt quickly took him in. They treated him with love and care, similarly to how his own parents would have. Even after his step brother was born, their behaviour didn’t seem to visibly change.
However, as the children grew older, it became more apparent that they received different treatment. While Ian, the younger brother, was always encouraged, perhaps even pressured to do well in his studies and extracurriculars, Ryan could choose to do whatever he liked and his adoptive parents rarely complained. In a sense, he was more spoiled than his younger brother who had more expectations to meet. This led to Ryan being more confident and stubborn with his choices but also more irresponsible and reckless, fuelling his rebellious stage in his early twenties.
Discovering his passion for music at an early age, Ryan started learning more about the subject. However, after arguing with every single guitar tutor he had and dropping out of choir in high school shortly after joining,it had become apparent to him that he couldn’t create music with other people due to his inability to accept criticism and compromise when it came to his ideas. He had unfair expectations of others to always agree with him, but if he wasn’t going to like what he made, he might as well not make it at all.
Just as Ry dropped out of University, things at home were starting to get tense between him and his younger brother. Having grown older, Ian started speaking up about the seemingly special treatment his brother was getting. Too absorbed by his own life, Ryan failed to notice this or rather, he refused to pay attention to it. Eventually, both of them decided to confront their parents. Unsurprisingly, they were right. The two adults were forced to admit that they had a soft spot for Ryan due to his situation. It was also the first time Ryan found out he was adopted and it nearly broke him. He had been spoiled, always getting what he wanted and doing whatever he wanted.
But the people he called his family weren’t his actual family. He felt like a stranger in his own house, taking advantage of things that weren’t meant for him. For the first time, he felt guilt and anger to a degree he never thought possible. In a rush of emotions, he grabbed his guitar and a few clothes and left home.
After roaming around the town for a few days, he had to let go of his pride and go back home. Whether he liked it or not, he had no friends whose place he could crash and he’d taken very little money with him before leaving. His return home was awkward and unpleasant. His parents tried to be nice as always, but Ryan didn’t feel like the same person anymore. Not even music could make up for the loneliness he was feeling. He knew he had to find a quick way to move out and become self-reliant.
Unfortunately, the money he had wasn’t quite enough to rent a place and Ryan found himself having to ask his parents for one last favour. From then on, the harsh days began as the young man had to let go of his comfortable lifestyle in favour of the adult life, full of worries and insecurities. Still, Ryan thought he could afford to be picky about how he earned money and turned to busking, playing in clubs around Printy or trying to sell songs. Things weren’t exactly working out, but then the most unexpected thing happened: Aliens. And with aliens, there came the powers. Ryan woke up one morning with a headache. Initially, he didn’t know what was going on, but then he realized, he could hear a lot of things : People, cars, animals, all loud in his head and all at once. It took him some time to figure out that this wasn’t going away and it started taking a toll on his life. He couldn’t concentrate on making music, he couldn’t do anything without getting distracted by something that was happening who knows how far away. While looking for means to deal with this condition, Ryan got convinced to try weed by an acquaintance and although not intended, it actually seemed to help. He was puzzled by how this drug seemed to offer temporary relief from his pain by altering his perception, and sought it more. Both a blessing and a curse, weed helped with some aspects of his life but destroyed others. Ryan started forgetting important things, even song lyrics sometimes. His moods became worse and he lost weight quickly. Still, it was a small price to pay for not having everyone’s voices constantly in his head.
Ryan is at a point in his life where he doesn’t really know what will happen. He wants to make music but his situation is currently unstable. He just deals with problems as they arise, hoping to make ends meet.

EXTRAS
- When the time came for Ryan to attend University, he chose Astronomy, something that wasn’t Music, yet random and interesting enough for him. While the course was certainly interesting and challenging, it was a bit too much for someone as carefree as Ry to take on. He found himself having to drop out due to inability to keep up with his peers. Even so, the things he learned stayed with him and inspire his music and lyrics to this day.
- Having dedicated his life to music, he plays quite a few instruments including guitar, bass guitar and drums. Has a decent singing voice.
- The master of cryptic, nonsensical tweets.
- Doesn’t get why people can be so obsessed with animals. They don’t do nor say anything interesting. Meow? [li]What’s that supposed to mean?
- Doesn’t have a licence or a car, but would gladly crash someone else’s… I mean what-
- Has a motorbike he actually did crash but hasn’t had the money to fix it yet.
- Ry is just a childhood moniker that stuck. But he goes by either Ryan or Ry- doesn’t really care.
- Eternal bed hair and overdue laundry
- Uses the words “man” and “dude” more than grammatically acceptable
- Too skinny for his own good. Always has bags under his eyes from lack of sleep

- Would literally ask anyone for money aside from his family.
- Is actually looking forward to meeting aliens. Who knows what crazy things they can tell him.
